After a string of successful shows including a sold out show in the Orpheum in Vienna the Hans Theessink Band is getting ready for a recording session in an old church in Tuscany, Italy. On his first visit to this church at Monte Antico some years ago, Hans noticed the great acoustics of the place and the plan was born to record in this inspiring environment some day. When Hans talked about this idea with his friends and Monte Antico owners Pat & Marcus, they were immediately interested and invited him. Pat & Marcus are also looking after the whole crew at their wonderful Villa "La Pievanella"!
Hans has written a lot of new material for this new Hans Theessink Band album and they're loading up their instruments and state of the art recording gear to work for a couple of weeks in these wonderful surroundings and enjoy Tuscany spring at the same time.

We hope to post some news here starting on April 6th.

Songs from the Southland 03/03/03up
HANS' NEW SOLO CD OUT NOW!!!

I love handmade roots music of any sort and I'm especially taken and touched by the rich sounds that originated in the southern states of the US. The sounds and songs from the Southland have been a constant source of inspiration for me since I first picked up the guitar some forty years ago after hearing Big Bill Broonzy for the first time. Most of the songs on this album have been my companions on stages around the world for quite some time and I still perform them a lot.
I learned these "Songs from the Southland" from masters like Mississippi John Hurt, Leadbelly, Fred McDowell, Skip James, Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, Dave Van Ronk, John Fogerty, Reverend Gary Davies, Willie Brown and K.C.Douglas and I remember what a wonderful experience it was to discover them for the first time. Check these people out if you get the chance. In the meantime, enjoy "Songs from the Southland".
