| I spent the last weekend of August at the 27th Tønder Festival in Denmark. I have a Danish past (lived there in the seventies) and have known the festival from the start. I've played there at least 10 times (either solo or with Blue Groove) and it's always great to be part of it - meet old and new friends. The festival is centered around celtic music but festival director Carsten Panduro also leaves space for other types of music, including the blues and related stuff. The festival is wellrun not at least because it's backed up by nearly 2000 volunteers who put in a lot of hours. It's a traditon that many musicians stay for the "Monday after" session to entertain the volunteers. For this event other volunteers cook a curry of huge dimensions (this was originally initiated by the late Hamish Imlach). For Milica and myself the visit to DK was even better because we had the chance to go visit our first grandchild Emma Johanne - she's a beautiful baby who lives in Esbjerg with her parents Maria and Flemming. We had some lovely days together close to the Northsea shore. Review Finn Smed Sahlholdt / Jyllandsposten (DK) August 27th 2001 The charismatic Hans Theessink was in charge of the bluesnight at the Tønder Festival and it was easy to see how much he enjoyed the atmosphere of the blues with it’s Mississippi Delta roots. Even though his american friends, Terry Evans with his powerful soul-voice and Louisiana Red, the guitarist that can keep up with B.B.King, made first class contributions to a wonderful night, the real magic always happened when the spotlight was on Theessink himself - at it’s best when he, all alone with his guitar and mouthharp, showed how you get 700 people in a hot Tønderhall to listen intensely to the finest little detail. You could hear the proverbial pin drop. He's a magician on the guitar and a true entertainer who kept the audience in the palm of his hand while he changed a string simultaneously.
